Multilingual Waves
We are currently leading an outreach initiative called Multilingual Waves, which brings engaging, research-informed talks to schools serving bilingual and Spanish-speaking communities across New York City.
The goal of this initiative is to support and empower students, families, and educators by sharing what neuroscience has taught us about how bilingualism shapes the brain and learning. Too often, bilingualism is viewed through a deficit lens when associated with immigrant or working-class communities. This program aims to counter that stigma with accessible and affirming science.
We would love to offer a talk at your school—either in English, Spanish, or both—based on your community’s preference. These sessions are designed to be interactive and dynamic, and can be tailored for parents, teachers, or both. Talks are delivered by Professor Blanco-Elorrieta, and we are happy to coordinate scheduling and format to best fit your school’s needs.
This program is fully funded by a grant, so there is no cost to your school. We aim to offer at least one talk per trimester and would be thrilled to include your school in this ongoing effort.
